Smt. Sushila Bohra, who, as people say, is a multifaceted diamond in the field of social work and an institution in herself. Taking inspiration from her husband’s quote, “Duty is God’s order and discipline is men’s order, so one must know duty before discipline,” she has dedicated her life to the rehabilitation of the handicapped and the upliftment of women in distress.
Born on 20th May 1940 in Jodhpur, she faced immense adversity after the untimely demise of her husband, the late Shri Paras Mal Bohra, just 1.5 years after their marriage in 1960. One can imagine how difficult it must have been for a young village widow to fight for her rights in a conservative society and rise to a position of repute among the common masses.
She continued her education and began her career as a lecturer at Vanasthali Vidyapeeth College near Jaipur in 1965–66, later serving as a professor at Mahesh Teachers’ Training College (B.Ed) from 1967–84. Recognised for her dedication to social causes, she was appointed Project Director of the District Women Development Agency under the Department of Child & Women Development by the Government of Rajasthan in 1984. She retired in 1999, having received a one-year extension for her meticulous work in the empowerment and self-employment of women in distress.
